Sign our petition urging Duke Energy to publicly end all support of ALEC

Reports surfaced recently of the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) plans to push legislation that penalizes homeowners who install solar panels on their homes. This proposed new energy tax on solar homeowners is especially frustrating since the group claims to be an advocate of lower taxes and limited government.

The Guardian newspaper quotes John Eick, a legislative analyst for ALEC energy, who describes homeowners with solar panels as: “those direct generation customers are essentially free-riders on the system.”

Even more concerning is that Duke Energy was once a member of ALEC and won’t say now whether the company is currently a member of this anti-clean energy group. North Carolina’s main electric utility should have nothing to do with this backwards organization. We need your help to encourage Duke to cut all ties with ALEC. Sign our petition below and add your voice to this important issue.

Dear [Recipient],
I urge Duke Energy to publicly withdraw all support and membership ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). This backwards organization has a radical agenda, and North Carolina’s leading utility should cut all ties to the organization. Duke Energy should follow the lead of other major corporations who have recently left ALEC. Especially concerning is a new report of ALEC’s plan to push legislation that would penalize and possibly tax homeowners who install their own solar panels. Please end all ties with this anti-clean energy organization. Thank you.
